Scout Clowdus - 2nd grade

All of the elementary students will be challenged this week to think about some goals and plans that they have for this new year.  In the number shapes for 2010, students will draw and paint shapes and color patterns. Students will think about t what they would like to accomplish this year and write those goals on the edges of the paper.  Students in grades PK-1st will read the book P.Bear’s New Year’s Party by Paul Owen Lewis.  Mrs. Dent talked about how God has given us all the gift of time this year and that we need to choose to use it wisely.  Our key verse for this week’s less is Psalm 138:8 ” The Lord will work out his plans for my life – for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.”

Students this week will draw all thing Christmas using a winter landscape background to draw and paint.  We will read a book “Bekah Goes to the North Pole“.(click here to view) As as special treat this week, we will watch elf videos of our “specials” teachers during art, music and computer class.  Below are the links listed to watch each of these funny videos.  We would like to wish everyone a blessed Christmas season as we celebrate the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Woodmansee's Kindergarten Elf Puppets

Students will be reading the story “The Littelest Angel” this week by Charles Tazewell. We will also be watching a short video clip of “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” – called “We are Santa’s Elves” (Click Here to Watch). After looking at lots of pictures of Christmas elves, we will use special person shaped wooden sticks to create Elf Stick puppets just in time for Christmas.

Week 16 – SNOWMEN! / PK-3rd

This week everyone is making a paper plate snowman.  Using thier creative skills, students will use various collage materials to make a snowman that will make you shiver just to look at him.  We will also this week be reading the Bible story of the first Christmas found in Luke chapter one.  We will read a beautifully illustrated book “Snowmen at Christmastime” by Caralyn Buehner. Students will be inspired by a video slide show  showing pictures of snowmen (Click Here to watch) and a short video of “Frosty the Snowman” (Click Here to watch).

Rachel Mendenhall - Kindergarten

Students will be working this week on projects related to the Nativity.  We will learn that “Nativity” means the birth of Jesus Christ on the very first Christmas more than 2000 years ago. We celebrate Jesus’ birthday every Christmas. Students are working on various nativity art projects to display around our school during this Christmas season. How to make a pinch potThis week we are continuing our Native American unit.  We will be making clay pinch pots that we will fire in the ceramic kiln and use during the Thanksgiving Feast next week. We are so very thankful that God has given us such a wonderful place to learn at Strong Rock!
